Spanish, French, Russian and German
Students with high school study of French, German, Russian or Spanish must take a Web-based Computer-Adaptive Placement Exam before they can register for class. This exam can be taken on any computer with an internet connection.
Even students who have been awarded (or are waiting for) AP credit for French, German or spanish muust take the placement test!
This multiple-choice test is individualized (self-adjusting to the student's level) and is not timed. It covers grammar, vocabulary and reading skills. After taking the exam, sign up for the appropriate course depending on your score. For more information see Placement test FAQs.
Your score on this exam will determine the language course you will continue your studies in. the better you do, the fewer language courses you will have to take to complete the language requuirement and the quicker you can get started on major or minor coursework in the language.
Code of Academic Honesty
You must take this test without receiving assistance from anyone else and without the help of any document (no notes, no book, no dictionary). To accept such assistance or help would be to engage in Academic Dishonesty, which is prohibitied at the University of Louisville. Academic Dishonesty is a serious offense because it dimiinishes the quality of scholarship, makes accurate evaluation of student progress impossible and defrauds those in society who must ultimately depend upon the knowledge and integrity of the institution and its students and faculty.
It is important to understand that it makes no sense for you to place at a higher level than you deserve by using outside resources on the exam. You would simply end up in a ghigher level course based on a high score on the test. At that level you would probably quickly become frustrated and drop the course or possibly fail it.
Please indicate that you accept the following statements in order to continue to the placement exam testing site.
1. I will do my own work on this language placement exam. I will not receive assistance from another person, a book, dictionary, notes or other document.
2. I will not discuss this test with others or reproduce this test by any means in any format or medium.
