Spain I

Dr. Regina Roebuck is the director of this year’s KIIS Spain I summer program, which takes place in Segovia, a charming provincial capital in the foothills of the Guadarrama mountains, only 60 miles to the north of Madrid. Segovia's convenient location makes it ideal for excursions.  Short trips to Madrid and the surrounding areas will provide students with dramatically different experiences of Spain. Students stay with host families.  Up to 6 credits.  More information www.kiis.org

Spain II

Directed by Dr. Melissa Stewart of WKU, this program takes place in both Madrid and Segovia, and includes excursions to nearby Toledo and other sites.   Courses range from the 300-400 level.  Students stay with host families.  Up to 6 credits.  More information www.kiis.org  

Morelia, Mexico

This program takes place in Mexico City, where students visit the t the pyramids at Teotihuacán, the Basilica of Guadalupe, the National Palace (to see the murals of Diego Rivera), the Templo Mayor, the National Cathedral, and the Palacio de Bellas Artes, and then in Morelia, a beautiful colonial city virtually untouched by tourists.  Students stay with host families.  Up to 6 credits.  More information www.kiis.org

Argentina

This newest KIIS program will allow students to improve their Spanish and their understanding of the culture of one of the largest Spanish-speaking countries in the world.  Argentina is a country that embodies the richness of the cultures of both South America and Europe.  Students will experience the splendor, vigor and vitality of Argentina, known as "the land of the six continents" because of the diversity of its geography and climate.  Its history of major upheavals has inspired major literary, architectural, artistic, and political works.  Students stay with host families.  Up to 6 credits.  More information www.kiis.org

Semester programs

Segovia, Spain (Spring)

During the spring semester, KIIS will offer a 13-week program in Segovia, Spain, a pleasant provincial capital only 90 minutes from Madrid.  For both linguistic and cultural reasons, Segovia, in the heart of Castile, is an ideal location for the study of Spanish language and culture.  Segovia’s size is likewise ideal for a program of this sort.  All areas of the city are easily accessible without a car.  Lively and varied cultural activities are available to the students.  Students are welcome in Segovia, and life there is low-cost and low- stress.   Students stay with host families. 

The Spanish Language Option offers courses taught in Spanish, while the Honors/Humanities Option offers courses taught in English combined with the intensive study of Spanish at both the elementary and intermediate levels.  Application deadline 10/2.  More information www.kiis.org

Morelia, Mexico (Fall) (Some courses taught in English).

During the fall semester, the KIIS typically offers a 13-week program in Mexico. The site of the program, Morelia, is the capital of the province of Michoacán and a showcase of Spanish colonial architecture. For both linguistic and cultural reasons, Morelia is an ideal location. Because it is a university city, there are lively and varied cultural activities. Students are welcomed in Morelia, and life there is low-cost and low-stress. Students stay with host families. 

There are two options of study from which students may choose. The Spanish Language Option offers courses taught in Spanish, while the Honors/Humanities Option offers courses taught in English combined with the intensive study of Spanish at both the elementary and intermediate levels.  More information www.kiis.org

International Studies Abroad (ISA)

Summer, Semester and Year-long programs

ISA was established in 1987 to facilitate Study Abroad programs for American college students. ISA prides itself on taking each student's requests and needs seriously, and often designs individual programs to meet his/her requirements. ISA believes that by studying abroad students not only see, but experience other cultures and customs. ISA has programs in countries, such as: Argentina, Australia, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, England, France, Italy, Mexico, Peru, and SpainISA offers programs throught the year and processes applications of a rolling basis. University of Louisville’s Study Abroad in Panama

Summer only

The University of Louisville-Panama and the Latin American Studies Program offer a study abroad program in Panama each May.  Students stay in a centrally located hotel and may earn up to 6 credit hours, taking courses in Spanish language and Panamanian Culture at the University of Louisville’s branch campus in Panama City.  Planned excursions include visits to the Panama Canal, El Casco Viejo and the Presidential Palace in the colonial part of the city, the Causeway in the Canal Zone, and the Emberá Indigenous Community in the Gamboa Rainforest Resort.  For more information, contact Latin American Studies Program.

The North American Conflict Resolution (NACR) Program

Fall and Spring Semester

North American Conflict Resolution Program is an exciting College of Arts and Sciences program that provides the opportunity for U of L undergraduates to study conflict resolution through a semester exchange at U of L’s partner universities in Canada and Mexico. Through this innovative program, U of L's "North American Peace Ambassadors" take courses, do international internships, and have an extended period to learn about and analyze an array of conflicts found on the North American continent.  More information is available from the International Center.
