Intermediate Spanish 201 and 202

Students who complete Spanish 123 or score between 338 and 418 on the placement exam and wish to continue their study of Spanish should enroll in Spanish 201, Continuing Spanish I. Spanish 201 is the first semester of the Intermediate Spanish Program. Spanish 201 and 202 (Intermediate Spanish I and II) build on and strengthen the skills learned in the Basic or Intensive Basic Spanish Programs or through previous study. In particular, attention is given to help increase students’ productive, communicative skills (writing and speaking) and improving their knowledge of grammar. Both Spanish 201 and 202 count toward the Spanish major and minor.

You should not enroll in Spanish 201 unless you have completed Spanish 123 or its equivalent at another institution, or you have scored between 338 and 418 on the Placement Exam.

You should not enroll in Spanish 202 unless you have completed 201 or its equivalent at another institution.

Spanish 201 and 202 may not be taken concurrently.

After completing the 201-202 sequence, students may enroll in Spanish 321 (Spanish Conversation), Spanish 322 (Spanish Composition) and Spanish 355 (Reading Hispanic Texts). These classes allow students to work on individual skills, in preparation for content courses at the 400 and 500 levels. Please note that 321, 322 and 355 can not be taken concurrently with 201 or 202.
